ZORCH is an awesome two piece from Austin, Tx. The first band I thought of upon hearing them was Health, due to the low-fi, vocoder-sounding vocals. As I ventured further and further into their myspace tracks, several different sounds and influences came to mind. They range from long instrumental jam textures not dissimilar to Tortoise, and sometimes get straight poppy on a mother fucker, looping uppity noises over upbeat drums similar to noise-pop forefathers Joan Of Arc. Though they do have vocals, they are pretty low in the mix, and serve as a means of texture more so than storytelling or as a lead “instrument”.
These guys will be stopping through on tour, bringing with them Hat Talk, an instrumental space prog-metal band trying their hand at being a three piece, with the recent departure of Christopher Thompson.
Also playing will be Come & Conquer, a newly formed “side project” made up of Wildfires, Jupiter Death Brigade, and The Fight Between Frames members. This will be the first show for C&C. Expect flailing bodies and hyperfast angry hardcore punk rock.
